User Experience is what makes or breaks a website or an application.
Bad experiences with user interface design can be really frustrating. Sometimes, advice on how not to do things turns out to be the most practical because simple guides and recommendations always leave room for wrong decisions. That’s why we decided to share a few examples of bad user experience designs with you.
1. AV Autoplay
Needless to say, one of the most frustrating things that website users face is the sudden audio/video playback when opening a web page. Just provide a default mute with an option to turn it off.
2. Being too literal
Don't drag any world problems to your business niche if it's not connected with them.
Avoid adding phrases such as "similar, perhaps less literal, phrases can be found on almost every website." Utilize a language that sounds more specific and targeted toward your audience.
3. Confusing web forms
Spend extra time customizing your forms to make them as personalized as possible. Personalize it and make it pain-free.
4. Annoying dropdown
Have you ever tried to display the items you want in a dropdown menu when you have to scroll? This is not an easy task, especially for mobile users. Don't complicate things; keep it simple
5. Inefficient CTA
Did you see how often a user needs to click on a website to perform the desired action? If this number exceeds 3 for a basic task, the UX definitely has a problem.
6. Huge checklist
Did you know that the checklist was originally created so users can provide a "yes" or "no" answer? You shouldn't abuse them. Make it short
7. Bad colour palette
People pay a lot of attention to colour, which extends beyond choosing something brighter to colours having some positive impact. Therefore, when designing your product, make it palatable to people. Most judge a website by how it looks
8. Complicated passwords
Most people don’t have a great memory. So forcing them to come up with ridiculous passwords only adds to their annoyance
9. Overdoing CAPTCHA
Bots don’t visit websites, so it doesn’t make sense to put a CAPTCHA on a website. Just remove it
10. Lack of intuition
No point in having a great website if the users can’t make sense of it. Keep it simple
11. Buzzwords
Buzzwords are everywhere. But people outside the bubble can’t understand it. So, avoid using them
12. Too little content
Having too many empty spaces reflects badly on the website. Try to keep it to a minimum
13. Too much content
When using a website, too many words overwhelm people and ultimately drive down visitors. Write content to the point, nothing more.
14. Slow loading time
Nothing turns people off more than a slow-loading website. If it takes more than 3 seconds, they go somewhere else
We hope this gives you some ideas to avoid mistakes that usually ruin the user experience.
